Planning
In this section of the website we planned out our ideas for our introduction this ranged from the general idea, location and props we would use. We also chose who we wanted to star in it and what role they would play, in this section we also went into detail explaining reasons for our choices and expanding on that by exploring choices we chose against.(W.T)
Horror PitchWe were put into an imaginary senario where we had to pitch our idea to a distributor who would help get our horror out to an audience. Our basic horror idea included an arguing couple in a forest who end up being killed by an invisible spectre. To find out more about our original idea, follow the link bellow!

Script and ShotsThis is the script we wrote for the sequence, including camera shots and directions for the character. This was important for planning as it allowed us to have a basic idea of what we wanted. It also includes the essential dialogue that added to the sequence. We also included specific shots we would do such as, over the shoulder.

StoryboardThe storyboard is an essential part of planning for our sequence. This is because it is the basic outline of what the OTS should look like. Our storyboard includes some quick sketches of the style of shots we are looking to recreate. It also shows what we are planning to have happen in each of the shots taken.

Risk AssessmentA risk assessment is a very important part of planning for your horror. It is essential for everyone to be safe in the environment you are working in. It is also important for the group to use the equipment safely and correctly to prevent damage. Therefore we had to complete a risk assessment form to ensure that we were aware of the risks involved and how to avoid them.

Shooting ScheduleThe shooting schedule is a day by day calendar of what we did and when we filmed. This is important as it shows the process we had to go through well filming our OTS. It also includes what we planned to get up to on each day we filmed and some of the changes we made. It took a long time but we all had a lot of fun. This is a short outtake from one of the final days of filming. Enjoy!

Initial Practice ShotsThese were the first videos and shots we took whilst learning to film. We have progressed since our very first preliminary task, however we still have quite a while to go before we complete our OTS. It is important for us to take these initial practice shots while filming so we can see if we need to change anything to the cast or script before continuing.

Time Of Day To Film And Lighting NotesIt is important to document the time of day at which we filmed as it would effect the continuity of our OTS if we filmed at different times of day, on different days. It is also very important to focus on the lighting of the sequence. As we are setting our horror outside the lighting could be affected by many different elements, such as the weather.

Location Choices And Why?It is essential to pick the right location for your OTS. It needs to connect with the sub-genre and the idea behind your sequence. Therefore we searched for a convenient forest area that was also eerie enough to add tension and suspense to our horror sequence. The idea of filming in a forest is also very original as it hasn't been used in many horror films.

Casting Decisions And Why?An important part of making an OTS is choosing a perfect cast. The actors within our opening sequence play a large role in building the fear and tension of the OTS. With this in mind we had to focus on picking the right people for the roles. This was a long process and we did end up changing the lead actress role for the final shoot. All our cast members were specifically chosen for the skills that they could bring to the role to make it believable.

PropsProps are another important part of creating an opening title sequence. We needed to use a lot of props, especially for the back story we made in the boiler room. With this in mind we created a list of all the props we needed to use in our OTS. Each of the props helped to add to the sequence allowing it to seem more realistic.

Font Choices And JustificationAs we are creating an opening title sequence, the titles are an essential part. Therefore choosing the right font is important as the wrong font could make the OTS look more like a comedy than a horror. We explored a wide range of fonts to see which would work well with our OTS. In the end we decided to look at a simplistic font so as not to distract too much from the action on screen.

Title Choices And ConnotationsTitle choices are important in an opening title sequence, especially the order of titles. With horror every film want to do it differently. Some films choose to follow convention, whereas other choose to remove the titles all together. As our task is to create an opening title sequence we have decided to follow convention and order the titles in the correct order.

Moving Image InspirationIn this section we discussed the main inspiration for our OTS. It describes such films as, 'The Blair Witch Project' (1999) and what part of our idea was inspired by them. For example the idea of filming in a forest was heavily inspired by 'The Blair Witch Project' (1999) as this is one of our favourite horror films. We also took ideas from films such as; 'Them' (2006) and 'The Ring' (2002).
