Audience Questionnaire
We created a questionnaire for people to answer to use in our audience research, this will give us a better idea of what we can do to make our movie better. We will know what is most popular among the horror genre, what people find scary and also if they like horror or not. We asked each person 3 questions being:
-Do you like horror?
-What is your favourite horror genre?
-What do you find scary?
We asked mainly people between the age of 13-18, but several people who are much older including parents also answered our questions. Below I have created pie charts to show the research, I believe it is better then just a list of answers as it gives a better visual representation. With our collected results I put the data in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and created some pie charts from there. (HC)

Above is the first question in the questionnaire, 'Do you like horror?'. We split the two pie charts into male and female as we thought there was a possibility that there could be some variation. Both pie charts show that the majority of people do actually like horror, but its obvious to see that more females dont like horror then male. 89% of males like horror, this is nearly 9 in every 10 which is actually a little bit surprising, we didn't think that this many would actually like the genre. The fact that we can see that a lot of people like and enjoy is encouraging, it shows that a lot of people would enjoy the genre of a movie we are making, a lot more people are likely to see it. (HC)
Above is the second question in the questionnaire, 'What is your favourite genre?'. Yet again we split the two pie charts into male and female. Both charts have some similarities but also some differences. In both charts it is important to note that Paranormal is the most chosen sub genre for horror. This could be because paranormal are a lot more believable then other genres, they also have characters of a similar age which could make them easier to relate to. Some people might say that paranormal is a lot more likely to happen in comparison with Zombies. Zombies also had a high choice rate in the male chart, but not as much in the female chart. So you conclude that Paranormal would be a good choice of genre to produce a film about, but we also thought out Thriller as it looks like there is a possible opening in the market for it. (HC)
Above is our final question, 'what do you find scary?'. There are actually a lot of variation between these to pie charts. In the male chart jumps has nearly a quarter of votes where as for females its has a lower amount at 10%. The most scary with the females was darkness, surprisingly this was also seen as quite scary with the males as well. It is also interesting to note that no males thought that clowns were scary, that is crazy considering that over 1 in 5 females considered it to be scary. To make this movie appeal to a wider audience it might be a good idea to include more jumps then originaly planned, and also use lighting in the way to make darkness more scary, due to these being the most chosen in the questionnaire. (HC)
To conclude, by looking at all of the data available we can consider what will be best for us to do in our horror movie. We can see that it would be a clever idea to have our sub-genre as paranormal due to the response it received in the questionnaire, both genders chose paranormal as there most popular genre. We also see that it would be a good idea to include jumps and darkness into our movie, they are also easy to work round a paranormal theme. So by looking at this research we have gotten a better understanding of what route we should be taking in creating our opening title sequence for the movie. (HC)
