Moving Image Inspiration
Ils(Them)
Our first source of inspiration and possibly our main came from the opening title sequence of 'il's' (2006). The idea of the antagonist being shrouded in mystery we have replicated in our opening title sequence as like in 'Them' our killer is represented through the emotions of the protagonists and rustles of leaves, thereby leaving the viewer to question whether or not there is a killer or its just in there heads.
Our inspiration for our final kill shot at the climax of the sequence and arguable the most important shot of the entire sequence took direct inspiration from "The Ring" in its opening sequence. The shot we took inspiration from was the final shot of the sequence in which the protagonist meets her end and the shot zooms in to her fear ridden face, we adapted this to ours by rather than distorting the scream we out synced it with the shot so the scream carried on after the effect thereby giving the illusion that she was murdered even though we didn't see it.
Inspiration for the main theme of the sequence including the atmosphere and most of all the characters came from 'The Blair Witch Project'. The idea of our protagonists camping and getting into an argument, like 'Them' the idea of our antagonist having a more ghostly presence and the use of our characters real names as we felt it would make the actors more convincing in there roles if they felt as though they were playing themselves. All of these were influenced in some way from the Blair Witch Project.(W.T)
