Analysis Of Titles Within OTS
In this opening sequence of the original 'Halloween'(1978) the titles are most notable orange this is part of the films them which obviously is Halloween considering the title and an iconic symbol of Halloween are pumpkins which are orange, this being the logic behind the colour of the titles. The effects on the titles are a simple fade, this is probably mostly down to the time when the film came out rather than the style the film creators were going for, as in the late 70's the effects on the titles were limited due to the technology available and the fact that Saul Bass had produced his brand new style of titles only 20 or so years ago meant that the style didn't have the time to be mastered as they are today. We can also see that the font is much more thicker on the names than the job title, this is to separate them and make it easier to read audiences this applies to most opening title style's.(W.T)
The titles in 'Se7en' (1995) are the main focus of the opening title sequence, due to the fact that it is a creative title sequence. The layout and font of the title have a handwritten effect, which links well to the imagery within the sequence of books and writing. There are several different effects used to make each title different, for example some use a blur effect whereas others flash or change position. The actual title of the film blurs in and is placed in the corner, then it increases in size and flashes before disappearing. This is a very effective way of using titles as it attracts your attention and allows you to focus specifically on the title which is the idea of a creative sequence. The order of the titles is different to the regular format. The main actors names come before the title when usually they follow afterwards. I think this layout of titles is not something we will use in our opening title sequence because we have decided to go down a more traditional route. Also we have decided not to use flashy effects on our title, as seen in this opening, because we believe it will detract from our storyline. However i do believe that the titles in this sequence are very effective and links well with the theme of the film.

The titles in 'The Omen' (1976) are very bland compared to other opening title sequences we have seen, mainly because they are simply made using a large, simple font that is easy to read and the titles fade in and out. This, in a way made it effective as the audience were not drawn into the titles and so could focus on the film. The names of the main actors come before the title of film, which is not a traditional approach. We chose to use a similar font in our opening sequence however in terms of title order, we opted with a more traditional approach. (NL)
